World Mission Society

Missions to the Deaf

World Mission Society is an important ministry focusing on the many aspects of taking the Bible's Gospel to Deaf People around the world.  The multi-faceted ministry of WMS reaches as a pioneer into areas of ministry yet undone.

World Mission Society today is involved in:

The mission sends trained missionaries to churches in the United States and in other countries to train Christian workers and interpreters in those churches in the Sign Language.  While there for a two week school the missionary visits with the pastor and folks from the church to bring deaf into the church while training workers for the ministry.  This indigenous ministry leaves strong local church deaf ministries in many parts of the world.  This has been done and continues to be done in many countries in many languages.
The mission has established Deaf churches in the United States and Canada.  Today these churches are staffed with Deaf pastors and soon more Deaf churches will be starting.
After training workers with the Deaf in various locations the mission creates further practical training as well as an evangelistic opportunity by sponsoring camping programs for the Deaf in those respective areas.  Through this ministry we see many Deaf saved and new workers with the Deaf get the best of practical experience on how to teach the Gospel to their Deaf community.
Christian Schools for the Deaf are an important area of need around the world.  The mission promotes and assists local ministries in establishing Christian educational programs for the Deaf.  Elementary, High School and Bible College programs for the Deaf are a great need.
Helping new missionaries learn to do the work for which they have dedicated their lives and get started in that work is an important ministry of WMS.  Our involvement includes helping missionaries learn how to raise the support so vitally important to their new work.  Introduction to cross cultural training.
